The Peninsula Chess Club is in Newport News, VA serving the chess playing public on the Peninsula and surrounding areas. Chess players of all skill levels are welcome at the club. The club offers tournament chess (USCF rated chess games) as well as casual chess. To participate in rated games, a US Chess membership is required. Membership sign-up and renewals can be handled at our club site. Please bring cash if joining or renewing your US Chess membership at the club site. Small entry fees will be charged for rated games. Usually no prizes for playing but some tournament events throughout the year will involve prizes. Casual play is free. Check our calendar/agenda weekly for schedule of events and fees.

From Hampton: Take Mercury Blvd (Rte 258 south) toward James River Bridge. Merge onto Warwick Blvd (Rte 60 West) toward Ft Eustis. Go 1.1 miles and turn right onto Main St, then immediate right onto Municipal Ln (library entrance)...this leads into church parking lot.
From Yorktown: Take George Washington Mem Hwy (Rte 17 south). Turn left onto Jefferson Ave and follow for 2.8 miles. Turn right onto Main St. Turn left onto Municipal Ln (library entrance)...this leads into church parking lot.
From Denbigh: Follow Jefferson Ave (Rte 143 east) to Main St. Turn right onto Main St. Turn left onto Municipal Ln (Library entrance)...this leads into church parking lot.
From Williamsburg: Take Interstate 64-East toward Newport News. Merge onto Exit 255-A, Jefferson Ave (Rte 143 east). Follow Jefferson Ave for 6.8 miles. Turn right onto Main St. Turn left onto Municipal Ln (library entrance)...this leads into church parking lot.
What to Bring
If you have your own tournament playing board and chess clock then please bring it. You should know how to set and operate your own clock.
A small entry fee for Rated Games. Fee amounts for rated events are posted on the Calendar. Casual play is free.
